In the area known as Garfagnana (“Great Woodlands”) and situated 4 km north-west of the market town of Castelnuovo, our spacious and comfortable 4 bedroomed property occupies the lower portion of a substantial villa at the edge of the hamlet of Pontecosi.
Our accommodation comprises 3 double (one with twin beds) and 1 single bedrooms, spacious living/dining room area, well equipped kitchen accessing terrace for al fresco eating or sun bathing, bathroom & separate shower room. There is plenty of storage space. We are surrounded by garden ground.
A (P.G.A. affiliated) 6 hole golf course ( 3x6=18!) is located only 5 minutes away. There is fishing in the lake, and in the river Serchio. Horse riding & pony trecking, mountain bike trailing and hill walking are also amongst the attractions of the area. The Orecchiella National Park, and the beautiful unspoilt villages of the 5000-6000 feet high Alpi Appuane and Appenine mountains are within a short drive away. The whole valley is also readily (and inexpensively) accessed by train from the station at Castelnuovo. The beautiful medieval, Roman inspired former capital city of Tuscany - Lucca, is an hour away, whether by car or public transport, and Florence, Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano can all be reached in a day trip. The fine sandy beaches of the classical sea side resort of Viareggio make a fine day excursion for the family. Excellent local food and wine are a feature of the Garfagnana area – and amazingly well priced!
